Drunk drivers are known to cause a lot of personal injury and damage in the United States. Each state has its own unique set of laws and restrictions related to the use of alcohol and drugs while operating a vehicle. States even refer to them differently. Some states use Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI), while others call a drunk driving offense Operating Under the Influence (OUI). The San Diego DUI Law Center has researched the laws in each state and developed this free online resource to help people understand the different kinds of Minimum Penalties each state may impose on driving while drunk or impaired. These figures have been collected and illustrated in the infographic below and are designed to easily show the differences between each state on how much the minimum jail time, license suspension and fees can be.
